How the Explorer Pass charges

The London Explorer Pass is Go City’s second London pass alongside The London Pass®. When you buy, you only decide how many attractions you want to visit: two, three, four, five, six or seven. Which ones, you decide later. You show the QR code from the Go City app at the ticket desk, and each visit uses up one attraction.

The pass is activated on your first visit. From that day you have 30 days for the remaining attractions. Three in one day or one every other day: it makes no difference. Anything not used after 30 days expires.

How it differs from the London Pass

With the London Pass you pay for 1 to 10 calendar days and see as much as you can manage in that time. The Explorer Pass rewards a slower pace. If you are in London for a week but only plan four big sights, it costs you less than a day-based pass running for a week.

As a rule of thumb: a two-day London Pass costs roughly the same as an Explorer Pass for seven attractions (£155.00 against £165.00). If you can fit seven or more sights into two days, the London Pass is cheaper.

Prices for 2 to 7 attractions

With two attractions you pay £32.50 per visit, with seven only £23.57. Children aged 5 to 15 pay the child price; children under 5 do not need a pass.

Only in the London Pass

The big sights are in both Go City passes. Some options, though, are only in the London Pass: the half-day tour to Stonehenge, the day trip to Blenheim Palace, LEGOLAND Windsor, Chessington, the musical “Wicked”, plus breakfast, afternoon tea and other offers in restaurants and pubs. If you are not planning any of these, you lose nothing with the Explorer Pass.

All attractions with search and filter

From purchase to your first entry

The pass is fully digital. For some sights you also need a time slot.

Choose the number and buy

At Go City you choose between two and seven attractions. You do not have to say which ones when you buy. You enter the 5% code in the basket on gocity.com.

Book time slots

The London Eye, The Shard, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey and Madame Tussauds require a booking in the app after you buy. For the London Eye you can do this about 15 days ahead. You visit the Tower of London and St Paul’s Cathedral without a booking.

Show the QR code

At the entrance, staff scan the code in the app. The first scan activates the pass, and the 30 days start running. After that you can no longer cancel.

The case for and against the Explorer Pass

For

  • 30 days to use it: rest days and rainy days cost nothing.
  • You only pay for sights you actually visit.
  • The Tower of London, London Eye, Westminster Abbey and Windsor Castle are all available to choose.
  • Fully refundable at Go City up to 90 days after purchase, as long as the pass is not activated.
  • 5% off with the code for gocity.com.

What speaks against it

  • Seven attractions is the limit. If you plan more, the London Pass is cheaper.
  • The bus and the Thames boats each use up one attraction. In the London Pass they are simply included.
  • Stonehenge, day trips, theme parks and the food and drink offers are missing.
  • Unused attractions expire after 30 days without a refund.
  • With two cheaper sights, single tickets often cost less.

Explorer Pass questions

Do I have to choose the attractions when I buy?

No. When you buy, you only choose the number of attractions. Which ones you visit, you decide in London. For the London Eye, The Shard, Tower Bridge, Westminster Abbey and Madame Tussauds you book a time slot in the Go City app after you buy.

How long is the Explorer Pass valid?

30 days from your first visit. Before that the pass is not active, so the period only starts with the first scan at an entrance.

Is Windsor Castle included in the Explorer Pass?

Yes, Windsor Castle is available to choose and counts as one of your attractions. The same goes for the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace. The half-day tour to Stonehenge, on the other hand, is only in the London Pass.

More about the London Pass

Do the hop-on hop-off bus and Thames boats count as attractions?

Yes. The 2-day Big Bus ticket and the 24-hour pass for City Cruises boats each use up one attraction on the Explorer Pass. In the London Pass both are included without counting against anything.

Can I cancel the Explorer Pass?

If you bought it directly from Go City, you get your money back in full within 90 days of purchase, as long as the pass is not activated. If you bought it through Headout, Tiqets or GetYourGuide, their rules apply.

What happens if I visit fewer attractions?

The rest expire after 30 days, and there is no partial refund. So it is better to plan one level lower. You can always buy one more sight separately on the spot.

How much is the Explorer Pass for children?

Children aged 5 to 15 pay the child price: £49.00 for two attractions, £79.00 for four. Children under 5 do not need a pass. From 16, the adult price applies.

Where does the discount code work?

The code LONDONCP05 gives 5% off on gocity.com. It also works there for the London Pass. It does not work with other sellers. On londonpass.com the London Pass has its own code.
